SPECIFICATIONS 1971 AMC JAVELIN
   
Chassis: Body in white from AMC delivered to Penske Racing in Newtown, PA.
   
ID: Brass tag = 72AS03
   
Car Number: 1
   
Engine: 5 liter.  Built from a sleeved and de-stroked AMC 401.  Four bolt main caps.  Edelbrock intake manifold with a single Holley carburetor.  Built by Tony Oddo.
   
Transmission: 4 speed fully synchromesh.  Richmond T-10.
   
Differential: 9” Ford  built by RWR.  Custom hubs by Penske.
   
Steering: GM Saginaw steering box.
   
Front suspension: Custom Penske uprights and spindle snouts.  Penske hubs.  Lower control arms modified by Penske and later by RWR.  Custom front sway bar.
   
Rear suspension: Adjustable panhard bar and trailing arms custom by Penske.
   
Shock Absorbers: Koni special order shocks front and rear, customized by Penske.
   
Brakes: Girling calipers on all four corners.  Girling inline booster located on passenger side floor.
   
Fuel tank: Custom fuel cell with vent for quick fueling activated by the clutch.
   
Gauges: Stewart Warner.
   
Wheels: 15” x 8” Minilite with captured lug nuts.
   
Tires:

Goodyear “Blue Streak” Sports Car Special.  Bias ply.
